Our (Bill/Ken) mentor, Dee Duke, is a pastor from Jefferson, Oregon. We take a quarterly trip down to be taught by him regarding prayer and goal setting. One day he told us a story about his uncle. When Dee was little, his uncle would visit and had a pocket full of nickels. Dee learned that every time he asked for a nickel his uncle would give him one!
He wondered one day: “What if I just asked for his entire pocket of nickels!? That would certainly save him time and me as well!” So he boldly asked his uncle if he could have the whole pocket full! His uncle replied, “I don’t get to see you much, and the reason I give you a nickel is so that periodically throughout the day while I’m visiting you will come see me!”
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”Philippians 4:19
Dee later told us that this story is a lot like how prayer and giving work. We learned Sunday from Philippians 4:19 that God will always give us what we need from his astonishing riches. God’s major motive is that we constantly go to him for trust, fellowship and a “re-supply of our needs.” God has an infinite supply of “nickels” in his pocket! He is waiting for us to steward the ones that we have so that we might receive more!
Here is the deal…God has already given us “nickels” to spend on others! We already have that money to give, we already have his riches, and we already have God’s wealth he has supplied us with! Check out the second half of the verse! His riches have been given to us! So for those of us ready… let’s give some “nickels” away so that other may See Jesus for generations to come!!
Philippians 4:19b “God will supply all our needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
Trusting in God’s generosity with you!
