I grew up in church since the day I was born, so my Easter memories go a long, long way back!
I remember dressing up in my Easter best. I remember the Egg hunts in my living room with my sister before church. I remember getting a palm branch to take home after Sunday School and of course, I remember the “felt board” story of Easter! I loved everything about the “Passion Week” of Easter… except for Friday.
“”We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.””Luke 23:41-43 NLT
I was sad that Jesus had to die, I was sad that Jesus had to die on the cross and I was sad that he did it for me. I still remember the first time they called that moment “Good Friday”!
“Good Friday,” I thought… “what could be ‘good’ about the death of Jesus? I never liked the story as a kid. It wasn’t until I dove into the two thieves on the cross that I realized what an amazing moment the purposeful death of Jesus was for me, my family, my friends, and for all of us even today!
“When I saw myself in that thief, it suddenly became the best story ever! And that Friday suddenly was THE BEST FRIDAY EVER!“Pastor Ken
Jesus was the perfect man and yet his love was/is, and will always be perfect, continuous, momentous, and everlasting.
Jesus died for the sins of all mankind, even for the one thief who rejected him until his death there on the cross. But when I realized the second thief relented, confessed and believed… I suddenly saw me in him! If it wasn’t for the death of Jesus… Ken couldn’t be forgiven, Ken couldn’t confess, Ken couldn’t have a second chance, Ken couldn’t believe.
When I saw myself in that thief, it suddenly became the best story ever! And that Friday suddenly was THE BEST FRIDAY EVER!
Thank you, Jesus, for giving your life so all my Fridays could be good! You are a Good, Good God!
Blessings to all this Easter,
