What Could Have Been? What Can Be!

My junior year in high school we hired a new football coach who won a state championship with another high school.  We played about .500 ball each year so to improve he wanted more speed.

Naturally, he recruited all sprinters from our track team and, despite my parent’s reluctance, I joined the ranks.

I had never played tackle football so in my great wisdom I saw who was getting hit and who was doing the hitting and I decided to play cornerback!  While I was no Richard Sherman (I think I led the league in pass interference), I held my own and had a fun season.  At the end of the season, our team was watching film from my coach’s previous team and he said something I’ll never forget:

“…listen to our Life CoachJesus Christ. In prayer and in Bible study, he through the Holy Spirit, will be speaking to you! Pastor Ken

He was showing the team an all-star running back then looked at me and said: “He reminds me of you.”

Because I had no clue of my coach’s dreams and wishes, I just kicked into survival mode of what position was easiest for me. I often wonder what if I knew my coach’s dreams and wishes before the season started and not at the end

What could have been?

The good news is that God is not like my coach. He loves to tell us at the very beginning of our Christian walk what His dreams and hopes are for us. He tells us we are a “masterpiece”! He tells us we are “chosen”! He has given us a special “spiritual gift”!

And he points to the Fourth Quarter of life and reminds us that our goal, in Philippians 1, is to be holy (trusting him on the inside) and blameless (aiming towards loving others outside).

For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. “Philippians 1:10 NLT

This week we are challenging one another to ask God: What does God wish for me?

We no longer have to ask ourselves “What could have been?” Now we can inquire of God “What do you have for me, Jesus?” OrNow we know what can be!

Just a quick reminder to take some time and listen to our Life CoachJesus Christ. In prayer and in Bible study, he through the Holy Spirit will be speaking to you!

Listening with you,
Pastor Ken
